World-Class Fly Fishing

Cinco Rios Lodge offers access to a diverse range of fisheries — from big freestone rivers to spring creeks and trophy lakes — that make this a bucket-list destination for trout anglers. With miles of private waters fished exclusively by lodge guests and access to productive public rivers like the Rio Simpson, Aysen, Azul, Paloma, Mañihuales, Megote, Guillermo, and De Leon, anglers can expect varied and exciting fishing each day

Estancia Del Zorro, Coyhaique Alto

Guided trips typically mix float fishing, walk-and-wade sessions, and jetboat excursions to remote waters, giving anglers a full sampling of Patagonia’s famed trout fisheries. Most anglers bring 6-weight rods with floating lines and dedicated 7-weight rod for streamers.

Cinco Rios Lodge Season

Lodge Season:
Cinco Rios Lodge operates from the first week of November through the first week of May. Peak fishing runs from December through mid-April, when river conditions are ideal for float trips.

Rio Simpson choked full of Rainbow and Brown Trout eager to eat big dries

Spring (November–December):
Spring brings excellent streamer and nymph fishing for brown and rainbow trout. Consistent stonefly hatches make for exciting early-season action.

Summer (January–February):
These are prime dry-fly months, with anglers fishing dries, terrestrials, and emergers across rivers and spring creeks.

Fall (March–April):
Fall is trophy season, as large brown trout move into spawning mode — the best time to target the fish of a lifetime.

Getting here:

You'll fly to Santiago, Chile. Then, you'll take a two-hour flight south to Balmaceda. A lodge representative will greet you at the Balmaceda Airport and drive you to the Lodge, about a 30-minute drive. At the lodge you will be greeted with a fresh Pisco Sour followed by a tour of the lodge facilities and program orientation. Relax and unwind on the back deck overlooking the Rio Simpson valley, meet other guests, and mingle with guides over a beer as you rig your gear and select flies prior to dinner.

Cinco Rios Lodge can accommodate up to 12 anglers in six spacious rooms. Each room features two king-sized beds, a spacious private bathroom, seating area and an outdoor deck overlooking the Rio Simpson and plenty of space to store waders, rods, boots, and other gear. The lodge has a magnificent great room with comfortable couches, a beautiful rock fireplace, and expansive windows overlooking the valley; large family-style dining room and bar room complete with revolving beers on tap; upstairs lounge with satellite TV and small fly shop; and a well equip conference room.


Fly Fishing Program

Cinco Rios Lodge has access to miles of private rivers and streams throughout the region, with many only fished by our guests, a variety of public waters that include the Simpson, Paloma, Mañihuales and Aysen Rivers. Several lakes and lake inlets are also available, most notably the Azul, Desierto, Elizalde, Castor, Frio, and Pollux. Smaller creeks include the Guillermo, De Leon, Megote, and other unnamed gems. Over the course of a week fishing at Cinco Rios, anglers typically fish two days via a jet-boat on the Azul and Paloma, two days float-fishing on the Simpson or Mañihuales, and two days walking-and-wading small creeks or rivers.


Food & Wine

With a menu featuring the best local ingredients, the meals at Cinco Rios Lodge often include beef from our sister lodge, Estancia del Zorro. The chef and staff use fresh herbs from the lodge’s own garden, source wild morels from Estancia del Zorro, and serve fish fresh from the nearby Pacific Ocean. Anglers will enjoy Chilean lamb with fresh morel risotto; teriyaki steak saute; pepper chicken with hand-milled gnocchi; and a variety of baked quiches and fish dishes. To round out our dining experience we feature a variety of Chilean wines to pair with our wonderful meals.


Estancia Del Zorro

Estancia del Zorro is a massive 15,000 acre ranch near the border between Chile and Argentina. The property encompasses miles of private spring creeks with a number of nearby rivers and lakes for anglers to fish. Set on the expansive arid Pampas landscape, anglers enjoy personalized, first-rate service, and discover the cultural experience of a traditional Chilean estancia where wild condors soar the skies.

Estancia del Zorro is the perfect place to experience authentic Chilean culture and explore an incredible working ranch while fly fishing some of the best trout water in Patagonia. The owner’s hospitality, comfortable rooms, exquisite cuisine, outstanding wines, professionalism of the staff and guides are second-to-none.

Estancia del Zorro is a restored ranch house featuring 6 comfortable guest rooms for up to 12 guests. Each room has two king-sized beds, private baths, and balconies with incredible views stretching across the ranch and spring creek. The lodge’s welcoming great room is the ideal place to unwind and enjoy cocktails while replaying the days fishing with new friends. Estancia del Zorro is a working Chilean estancia and our guests enjoy this unique cultural experience along with their exclusive access to private and secluded waters.


Fishing Program

With two private rivers, a spring creek fifteen miles long, the fishing at Estancia del Zorro is varied and the trout are plentiful. Guides will take clients throughout the estancia’s hills, canyons, forests, pampas, and mountains to reach the best waters for any given daily conditions. Brown trout up to 10 pounds cruise in the spring creek, so if you love intimate waters and skillful spring creek fishing, this fishing program fits the bill perfectly. For anglers desiring to fish on larger waters, guides will float the Rio Simpson. Most visiting angler’s itineraries include fishing for resident brown trout in the estancia’s private waters, a short drive to fish nearby waters on an Argentine estancia across the border, and time on the beautiful and productive Rio Simpson.


Food and Wine

The exceptional food at Estancia del Zorro is plentiful, regional, and delicious. Made with regional ingredients, including beef raised on the estancia itself, the evening meal is enjoyed in the large great room. The menu includes beef, lamb, fish from Chilean fjords, and estancia-raised chicken, along with fresh morels, peppers and herbs from the estancia’s gardens, and wonderful local produce. Chile and Argentina are known for their great wines and many bottles from local boutique wineries are available at the lodge and served with the fantastic meals.
